Hydraulic Jump & Stilling Basin – Quick Design

Computes conjugate depth, hydraulic jump type, alternative jump length estimates and an indicative stilling basin length for a rectangular basin. Also suggests a USBR basin type based on Froude number. SI units: m, s, m³/s.

1 Calculations

Provide approach flow conditions; the tool will compute jump parameters and basin length.
Total discharge entering the stilling basin / downstream channel.
Rectangular cross‑section assumed for jump computations.
Depth at basin entrance / toe of spillway where the jump initiates.
Typical range 5–7 for classical jumps on plain aprons.
All correlations are computed; this selection chooses which one to adopt.
Use 1.0 for Lb ≈ Lj, or >1 for extra safety / appurtenances.
